I am Ulker

Ulker Gurbanova

Adventurous, sociable, style-conscious

Perhaps unusually for a guide, I have a science background having studied chemistry. But I also enjoy concerts, painting and visiting exhibitions. And with friends from all over the world, what really means the most to me is communicating with people, getting to know new, interesting individuals, and sharing my city with them. A love story with Baku lasts a lifetime. I can't help wondering how Baku came to be such a warm, multi-dimensional place, and one so far from ever being stereotypical. I can spend hours watching the Flame Towers “burn” and gazing out across the panoramic view from Highland Park.  I’m intrigued by the traces of the famous Nobel family who made their fortune here in Baku. And I adore small restaurants in the Old City where locals queue at weekends for traditional breakfasts, their hunger doubled by the tantalysingly delicious smell of hot, fresh bread being pulled straight from the clay ovens. Let me share this love with you by day or by night, winding through the narrow alleys, uncovering hidden stories drawn from medieval times through to the present. Shopping is another of my passions. Join me to shop for quirky, unexpected or extraordinary products while learning more about Azerbaijan’s crafts and folklore
